Cleans and removes dust (including contaminants such as asbestos or pesticide residues), dirt, grime and other foreign matter from museum specimens, objects, works of art, storage equipment and related items.
Follows special safety procedures when required which may include the wearing of protective clothing and physical examinations by the Health Services Division.
Transports specimens to and from loading docks and loads and drives transport vehicles.
Uses various computer programs to obtain and update inventory data. Programs will include standard PC software, custom programs and may include digital photography.
Maintains tools such as hand tools and power tools necessary for metal work, wood working, building crates and pallets and stabilizing objects.
Qualification requirements must be met within 30 days of the job announcement closing date.

Your application will be evaluated first for the basic qualifications described above. The applications that meet the basic qualifications will be evaluated further against the following criteria:
1. Knowledge of museum collections management work, including storage procedures and techniques, pest management and treatments, inventory control, rigging, digital photography and crating techniques.
2. Skill in the use of materials handling equipment (eg., fork lifts, dollies, hand trucks).
3. Skill in interpreting and adapting guidelines to solve problems.
4. Skill in the use of stationary and power tools.
5. Ability to build cohesiveness and work as part of a team.
Applicants who meet or exceed minimum qualifications will be assigned to one of three category groups based on job-related criteria: Best Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and excels in most of the job related competencies above. Better Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and satisfies most of the job related competencies above. Good Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements, but does not satisfy most of the job related competencies above to a substantive degree. This category rating process does not add veterans' preference points or apply the rule of three, but protects the rights of veterans by placing them ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category. A selecting official may make selections from the highest quality category (Best Category) provided no preference eligible in that category is passed over to select a non-preference eligible in that category unless the requirements of 5 U.S.C. 3317(b) or 3318(b) are satisfied. Preference eligibles who meet minimum qualification requirements and who have a compensable service-connected disability of at least 10 percent must be listed in the highest quality category, except when the position being filled is scientific or professional at the GS-9 grade level or higher. Experience: One year of full-time experience at the grade 4 level that is close or similar to the _operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects_. This experience includes activities such as using collections management principles and practices in activities such as packing, handling, storing; and and monitoring of museum objects.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
Or Education: Four years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or 24 semester hours of coursework in a related field.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
